Celoxis can import project with tasks from / to Microsoft Project. If you already have projects in Microsoft Project (MSP), you can simply import the MPP or XML file into Celoxis rather than creating a new project. This helps you save considerable time and effort. When you import Microsoft Project into Celoxis, the following project information is imported.

  • Task's parent-child relationships
  • Dependencies
  • Constraints
  • Resource allocation

The custom fields created in MS Project is not imported.

To import a project from Microsoft Project:

  1. Save your Microsoft Project plan as an .mpp or .xml file.
  2. In Celoxis, point to Project and then New Project.

If you have already created a project, then you can import the MPP/ XML in the project from the 'More' > 'Import' option under Interactive Gantt.

  3. Click on Import Microsoft Project
  4. Click Browse to navigate to the Microsoft Project file.
  5. Select the desired file.
  6. Click Next
  7. You are prompted to map the resources from MS Project to corresponding Celoxis users. If the users are created in Celoxis with the same name as MS Project, then the mapping is automatically done.
  8. Click Next

If you are importing tasks in an existing project, then you are asked if the existing tasks in the project are to be maintained or deleted. You can check the tasks to be deleted. If the tasks in the MPP/XML is the same, then the mapping is done automatically.

  9. On the Add Project window, you can then define/change the project's attributes like the Dates, name, client etc or enter the custom fields.
  10. Click Save
  11. The imported project is displayed.

  • When importing, the tasks will be scheduled as per the project/resource calendar defined in Celoxis. So, if there are non-working days in Celoxis calendar, then the tasks dates will be pushed out to the next available date.
  • If you have manually scheduled tasks in the MSP file, then they are imported as-is. For details, refer here.
